Community Projects

Bear Hugs

We are giving Teddy Bears to BEARS ON PATROL. The Bears will be carried by police, firemen, and EMS in their trucks to give to kids when in distress. Post 41 is also giving bears to Emergency Rooms in Community Hospitals to help ease the stress a small child may have to endure. Each Bear will have a tag that will have the American Legion emblem on the front and inside it will say donated by Tonganoxie American Legion Post 41.

Essay Contests

The American Legion Post 41 holds an essay contest at Elementary Schools. The children are given the topic of " What it means to be an American". The winners of the contest are awarded a framed certificate and a savings bond.

Emergency Room Donations

Post 41 donates to local emergency rooms! St. Johns, Cushing's, and Lawrence Memorial Hospital received Coloring books, crayons and stuffed animals to their emergency rooms. These items are to be given to children that are brought into their facilities.

Testimonials:

Collen Powers : "The Power's kids would like to thank you for the donated stuffed animals at the Cushing Memorial Hospital in Leavenworth. On Two separate occasions each child was seen in the ER (William - staples, Kayla - stitches) both are doing fine and love to sleep with their comfort buddy"

Claudia Sarabia : "Last night, we brought our 4-year old daughter, Julia, to the Emergency Room at St. John's Hospital. She was in a lot of pain and we had a hard time calming her down. She was very distresses and could not stop crying. However, when one of the nurses gave her a little black kitten donated by your post Julia actually calmed down. She slept with her kitty last night ad continues to carry her around wherever she goes. I just wanted to take a moment to thank y'all for this wonderful gift. It is truly appreciated."
